Inspired by the fleeting image of two figures reflected in water, People stands close to the lapping edges of the rowing lake. As the light shifts and breezes ripple the surface, the sculpture subtly changes, echoing the movements of walkers, cyclists, and rowers nearby. The raw steel is left to weather naturally, its rusting surface taking on warm, earthy tones over time – a living canvas shaped by the elements.
About the Artist: Born in the former Soviet Union in 1959, Tolleck Winner is a self-taught UK-based sculptor known for creating works that respond to their environment, often in steel and other robust materials.
This sculpture is one of several artworks that make up the Thorpe Meadows Sculpture Trail, part of the Nene Park Sculpture Collection. Set alongside the River Nene and Peterborough Rowing Lake, the trail invites visitors to discover contemporary sculptures in a beautiful riverside setting. Whether you’re walking, cycling, or picnicking nearby, each piece adds an extra layer of creativity to the landscape, making the journey as rewarding as the destination.
