Although the sails no longer turn, Eye Windmill remains a proud symbol of the village’s agricultural and fenland heritage. Built in the mid-19th century, this brick tower mill once ground grain from the surrounding reclaimed farmland, serving local farmers and contributing to the region’s thriving milling trade.
Now privately owned and without internal machinery, the mill still stands as a visual reminder of the engineering and enterprise that transformed the Fen Edge landscape. Its location, visible from across the village, makes it a distinctive landmark and a link to Eye’s historic role in fenland farming.
